Looking at Martial Arts for the
first
time?
for some questions you can ask.

|
To
all those who came before. -OSS
Dedicated to
teaching
& preserving the memory & spirit of our Senior Grandmaster:
"I
come to you with only Karate, empty hands, I have no weapons; but
should
I be forced to defend myself, my principles or my honor, should it be a
matter of life or death, of right or wrong, then here are my weapons,
Karate,
my empty hands." -Ed Parker

Mission
Statement:
|
Michael
Billings' Kenpo Karate is dedicated to teaching the principles,
concepts,
and theories of Ed Parker's American Kenpo Karate, with a strong
emphasis
on practical self-defense applications. This in no way limits the
incorporation
of other Martial Arts to compare, analyze, and contrast in the teaching
of American Kenpo.

School
Goals:
|
I
am committed to teaching my students to prepare themselves mentally,
emotionally,
and physically to realistically defend themselves, regardless of
pre-existing
conceptions, ideas, or physical condition. I want to encourage
growth
of both the Tiger (physical skills and prowess) and of the Dragon
(spiritual
preparedness and maturity) in the Martial Arts. I maintain that
the
quality of training enhances the quality of learning, and hold my
instructors,
my students, and myself to the same standard. Physical size or
condition
should not limit the individual's potential for growth within the
Art.
I am committed to helping my students achieve their own maximum
potentials
individually. Self-Defense is only one dimension of the
Art.
Flexibility, strength, conditioning, an enhanced self-image, and
overall
higher self-esteem, combined with a more centered perspective are
attributes
that are also improved while training in the Art. A truism that is not
cliche is "The better prepared one is for conflict, the less likely
we are to engage in it." While my classes may not be
for
everyone, everyone is invited to become a part of Kenpo. |

.. Oss
and a sincere thank you to my teachers, the many martial arts web pages,
and
books which made the graphics and information on my web site possible,
and as always,
Thanks
